Even though we don’t have an official OTA Android 4.4.2 KitKat available yet for the Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505, you can anytime flash the stock firmware on your Android smartphone. There are several leaked updates available, the latest being dubbed as XXUFNAD. The XXUFNAD represents an official Android 4.4.2 KitKat update compatible with the Galaxy S4, so you can safely install the leaked firmware on your phone if you want to experience the latest apps and features that are available on the Android platform.
In that matter, you will have to complete this step by step guide. As I have already stated, XXUFNAD isn’t yet OTA available, so for now you can only manually install the ROM on your Galaxy S4. Also, the OTA will be rolled out in phases or gradually so not all the users will receive the software update at the same time. So, as you can see, the best will be to apply the Android 4.4.2 KitKat system manually. If you want to do so, then use the guidelines from below, which will easily take you through the flashing procedure of XXUFNAD.
The first thing that should be clear for you is that XXUFNAD is a leaked version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS. What does this mean? First, we are not dealing with a custom ROM firmware. So, this is an official update, that hasn’t been yet OTA released. You can still install the same on your phone, just like you would with an OTA launch, only this time you need to do it manually. Therefore, for being able to apply this tutorial you won’t need to use complex or risky procedures or apps. Actually, Odin will be used, this being an official program developed and offered by Samsung and used especially on these types of operations.
Due to same reasons, for updating your Galaxy S4 to leaked XXUFNAD Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS, root access isn’t required. Anyway, the tutorial is compatible with both rooted and unrooted Android smartphones, so you have nothing to worry about. If your device is currently rooted, after flashing XXUFNAD firmware the root access will be revoked. You will then have to follow a new root method that is suitable with the new Android 4.4 XXUFNAD system – stay close as we will bring a dedicated root method for you during the following days.
Also, due to same reasons, when completing this guide the warranty of your phone will not get void. Moreover, if the warranty has been previously voided (this is usually happening when gaining root access or when updating with a custom ROM) now you will be able to restore the same – you can bookmark this guide and use it when needed, as after all the XXUFNAD represents the stock Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS that can be installed on the Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505.
XXUFNAD is a stable version of Android KitKat OS. According to those who have already installed the firmware on the Galaxy S4, the software works without lags, or related issues. Everything is working normaly and the update can be flashed for daily use. Also, there are features and capabilities that will optimize the performances of your Android smartphone. With Android 4.4 XXUFNAD your Galaxy S4 will run faster and better; you will enjoy an upgraded battery life, improved speeds and updated web browsing experience. Of course in order to obtain all that, first you have to complete this tutorial.
In order to do so, before doing anything else, backup the Galaxy S4 data. In rare cases, after using Odin for applying an official update manually, your phone might get stuck in a boot loop. If that happens you will have to wipe the system of your device – see the troubleshooting section. Now, in order to avoid unpleasant situations like the one I have described, do save your personal info, data, accounts, text messages, EFS folder, call logs, market apps and so on. The backup can be easily completed as there are free distributed backup and restore apps available on Google Play.
After that, ensure that you can use a computer – it must be running on Windows because Odin can be installed only on the same. Also, your Samsung Galaxy S4 and its USB cable must be near you because you will have to connect your device with your computer. Due to same reasons on your phone go to “menu – settings – developer options” and enable the USB debugging option. Also, on both computer and smartphone deactivate the security protection – temporarily disable antivirus and antimalware protection as these programs might interfere with the update process. Your smartphone must have at least 60% battery left, or else it might get turned off in the middle of the update operation – so plug in the charger before staring the steps from below.
Also, it is important to know that XXUFNAD Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware has been leaked only for the Samsung Galaxy S4 model number I9505. Using the steps from below for a different Android smartphone or tablet will probably brick your device – this guide is compatible only with the mentioned phone.
- From this page download the update file.
- Place the firmware file on your computer, preferable on desktop.
- Also, download Odin.
- Unzip Odin and install the program on your computer.
- Unzip the XXUFNAD Leaked Android 4.4.2 KitKat Firmware on the same folder as Odin.
- On your computer the Galaxy S4 drivers must be installed – you can flash the drivers by using Samsung KIES.
- Run Odin on your computer.
- Turn off your phone and wait a few seconds before going any further.
- Boot your smartphone in download mode: press and hold Volume Down, Home and Power buttons at the same time.
- With the S4 entered in download mode and with Odin running on your computer, use the USB cable and connect the devices.
- Odin will try to recognize your device.
- If everything works as expected, on your computer – on Odin – the “added” message will be displayed and the ID:COM section will turn yellow or blue.
- If not, try to reinstall the drivers on your computer and repeat the steps from above – of course first close Odin and unplug the USB cord.
- From Odin select the “PA” option.
- Pick the XXUFNAD Android 4.4.2 firmware file.
- Don’t make any other changes on Odin.
- Click on “start”.
- Wait while the update is being flashed.
- In the end, on Odin the “pass” message will be displayed and the ID:COM will turn green.
- You can then unplug the USB cable and reboot your smartphone as you are done.
As I have mentioned before, in the end, after installing leaked XXUFNAD Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS on your Samsung Galaxy S4, your device might get stuck in a boot loop. If that happens, you will have to reboot your Android smartphone in recovery mode. Then, from there you need to select “wipe data factory reset” followed by “wipe cache partition”. Return to main menu of recovery and select “reboot system now”.
Also, in some cases Odin might get stuck in the middle of the update operation. In that case you just have to close Odin. Also, unplug the USB cord and force restart your Galaxy S4. Reinstall the drivers on your computer, reboot your phone in download mode and repeat the update process from step 1.
