Rumor has it that the Nexus 5 release date has been scheduled for Ocotober 14, when the new Nexus smartphone will see the light of day synchronized with the debut of Android 4.4 KitKat. Well, in the mean time we get to look at the handset’s sepcs courtesy of the folks at Androidworld.it who dug inside a Nexus 5 log.
Codenamed LG D820 Hammerhead, Nexus 5 apparently sports a screen with 442 ppi pixel density, thus we will most likely deal with a 5-inch 1080p display (contrary to the rumors saying that it will have a 5.2-inch display just like the LG G2).
Just like everyone anticipated, the Nexus 5 will run Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, while being underpinned by a Snapdragon 800 chipset with quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400 CPU and Adreno 330 GPU. The Nexus 5 specs list also includes 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage (at least for the prototype in case), but there will most likely be a 32 GB model, too.
The same Italian publication writes that the camera has an 8 MP sensor and that it might also come with optical image stabilization. Given the chipset’s capabilities, the Nexus 5 might be one of the few smartphones on the market to record 4K videos, but this feature is yet to be confirmed. It looks like the front-facing camera has a 1.2 MP sensor and HD video recording support.
Inside the 131.9 mm tall and 68.2 mm wide case there’s a 2,300 mAh. The depth and the weight of the device haven’t been revealed, but, judging by the battery capacity it should be a pretty thin smartphone and only a bit heavier than its predecessor (Nexus 4 had a weight of 139 grams).
The Nexus 5 leaked specs also talk about WiFi n/ac dual band, Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy, NFC support, GPS module, proximity and ambient light sensors, barometer, magnetometer, gyro, and accelerometer. The rumor mill also speculated that the Nexus 5 will come with wireless charging support, but there’s no confirmation about it yet.
According to sources close to a Nexus 5 case manufacturer, the Android 4.4 KitKat-powered smartphone will be launched on the market on October 31st.
