Initially announced with an Intel chipset belonging to the Clover Trail+ family, the ZTE flagship will sport an Nvidia chipset afterall, namely the powerful Tegra 4.
So far the smartphone manufactures stood away from the Tegra 4 chipset, reports indicating that the unit has some battery consumption and functioning temperature issues, which were considered to high for the requirements of a modern smartphone. Even so, the Tegra 4 chipset will power the ZTE U988S after all, known to the public as ZTE Geek.
In the new configuration, ZTE Geek comes with a 5-inch display with a 1080p resolution and a 13 megapixel camera. The Nvidia Tegra 4 SoC sports a quad-core CPU clocked at 1.8 GHz and a GeForce GPU, while being assisted by 2 GB of RAM DDR3.
For the time being, the Tegra 4-powered variant of the ZTE Geek is ready to launch only on the the Chinese market, where it will be available on contract with China Mobile network operator.
Unfortunately, the faith of the initial version of the ZTE Geek is yet unknown, and so are the company’s plans regarding the smartphone’s debut on other markets outside China.
